Chris Stines - President
Sergeant Chris Stines is currently assigned to the Professional Standards Division. He is currently a member of the Special Response Team, a background investigator, and a Certified Voice Stress Analyst. Previous experience includes assignments to the Robbery Detail, the Drug Task Force, the Crowd Management Team, and as a Field Training Officer.
He has served for two years as the elected President of the Association, and has served three years on the Board of Directors.
Sergeant Stines is a graduate of UC Davis with a degree in Japanese Language, and enjoys hiking, playing guitar, and reading science fiction in his spare time.
Emily J Murphy - Vice President
Sergeant Emily Murphy is currently assigned to the Traffic Bureau as the Traffic Sergeant. Her prior assignments include Drug Task Force, Field Training Officer, Homicide Detective, and Field Training Sergeant. She has served on the board for over five years. Currently she represents the BPA (and her love of rescue-animals) in the capacity of a volunteer at the Berkeley Humane Society.
Marcus Dinkins - Administrative Vice President
Officer Marc Dinkins has been a Police Officer for over 20 years and the last 8 years with the City of Berkeley. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Division and has held prior assignments in the Detective Division, Community Service Bureau, and most recently the Traffic Bureau as a traffic officer. Marc was born in Berkeley and grew up in Santa Cruz where he spends his leisure time surfing and running. Marc has served on the board for the past two years.
Samantha Speelman - Secretary
Officer Samantha Speelman has been with the Berkeley Police Department for 11 years. She has worked in the Patrol Division as well as the Special Victim's Unit. She is currently working in the Patrol Division and is assigned to the South Berkeley Area. Samantha is a Special Response Team Negotiator, a Crisis Intervention Team Officer and Field Training Officer. Samantha has served on the BPA Board for the past two years and has recently become the Board Secretary.
Jennifer Coats - Treasurer
Officer Jennifer Coats has been with the Berkeley Police Department for 20 years. From 1994-1997 she work as a police aide. In 1997 she was appointed to the position of police officer and has worked in the Patrol Division as well as the Traffic Bureau. She is currently assigned to the Office of the Chief working as the public information officer. Jennifer has been on the board since January of 2014 and is currently serving as the BPA Treasurer.
Sean Ross - Sgt. At Arms
Sergeant Sean Ross is in his twentieth year of service with the Berkeley Police Department. He has held positions in the department's Drug Task Force and Detective Division working in both the Robbery and Sex Crimes/Domestic Violence Prevention units. Sean is currently assigned to Patrol Division and holds collateral duties as a tactical operator on the Special Response Team and as a Firearms and Tactics Instructor. Sean was voted onto the board in July 2014.
Nathan Patrick - Board Member
Officer Patrick was born and raised in Chicago Illinois. Prior to becoming a police officer he served 8 years in the Army, studied dance in college, and worked as a paramedic and 911 dispatcher. His favorite thing in Berkeley is the lemon trees. Officer Patrick has worked with the Berkeley Police Department since 2006.
Chris Bonaventure - Board Member
Officer Chris Bonaventure has been serving on the board since January 2015. Chris graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Shortly thereafter, Chris joined the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy and later lateraled to the Berkeley Police Department. Chris is currently working as a patrol officer and a field training officer within the Operations Division. Chris has held prior assignments in the Drug Task Force and as a detective in the Special Investigations Bureau.
Darren Kacalek - Board Member
Officer Darren Kacalek has been serving on the board since July 2015. Darren joined the Berkeley Police Department in 2002. Darren is currently working as a patrol officer and a field training officer within the Operations Division. Darren has held prior assignments in the Drug Task Force and as a detective in the Special Investigations Bureau. Darren enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife and two children.
